Ceremony in Honour of the Pro Futura Scientia XIV Fellows

In mid-September, a ceremony in honour of the young, talented scholars appointed as the
fourteenth generation of Pro Futura Scientia Fellows was held at the Collegium. The invited
audience saw Kieron Barclay (Demography, Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research,
Rostock/nominated by Stockholm University); Are Skeie Hermansen (Sociology, University
of Oslo); Linn Holmberg (History of Ideas, Stockholm University); Christopher Meckstroth
(History and Political Theory, University of Cambridge. In absentia); and Ivan Miroshnikov
(Ancient and Medieval History/Coptic Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences and University of
Helsinki/nominated by Mid Sweden University) being welcomed into the community of more than
50 researchers, who have been admitted to the Pro Futura Programme since 1999.

Introductory comments by SCAS Principal Christina Garsten and Marika Hedin, CEO of Riksbank-
ens Jubileumsfond (RJ) were followed by the traditional flower and diploma ceremony as well as
presentations, by the new Fellows, of the research paths that they aim to embark upon during their

by Uppsala Choral Society followed by a lecture by Professor Helena Wulff on the theme Rhythms
of Writing: Craft, Career and Context rounded up the ceremony.

The Pro Futura Scientia Programme was initiated by SCAS and RJ in 1999 in order to provide
optimal conditions and an attractive career path for young, promising scholars, enabling them to
pursue curiosity-driven research and develop as researchers.
